Covering grades 7, 8, and 9 the Middle School (Secundaria) offers students an encouraging learning environment in which to develop skills academically, artistically, and athletically. We provide opportunities for our students to get involved in causes that go beyond the school walls, like Robotics, Model United Nations (MUN), Global Issues Network (GIN), and other clubs that allow our students to provide community service, while learning how to be leaders. CAT Middle School is designed to meet the intellectual, social, emotional, moral, and physical developmental needs of adolescent students. All of them have a Homeroom to check in each day which allows us to go beyond the academic needs and get to know our students on a more personal level.
Academic Overview
Students in Middle School learn the fundamentals in core courses like math, science, social studies, and language, as outlined in the Modelo Educativo from SEP. Students are also introduced to various contents that they might later explore in High School on a deeper level, such as drama, art, and computers. At CAT, we like to provide opportunities for our students to learn outside of the classroom as well. There are various CATravel trips that are tied to learning the cultural heritage of Mexico, as well as other countries. Whether it be rafting tours in La Huasteca, a newfound understanding of the people and culture of an area, or a trip to Washington DC and New York in grades 7, and 8, or Europe for 9th grade.
Facilities
Secundaria (Middle School) shares a building with Preparatoria (High School) students. The facility is built with an innovative capability, which is highlighted in our new state-of-the-art STEM lab. It is an open and versatile space that allows us to maximize teacher communication, as well as transfer time between classes. Lockers are generally located next to classrooms in order to make the most efficient use of time. Classes are also taught in our new state-of-the-art Center for Visual and Performing Arts.
