Elementary at CAT is a dynamic environment where students are challenged to find solutions to real world community problems through project based learning. Through interdisciplinary teamwork, our amazing teachers facilitate engaging projects that fulfill our rigorous learning standards and simultaneously teach students important 21st century skills. Students work through the design process to solve challenging problems alongside their peers. CAT Elementary is an environment where feedback and critique help to push student thinking, and teachers encourage reflection throughout the learning cycle.
Here at CAT, our elementary students are exposed to the foundations of mathematics, reading, writing, STEM, Spanish language, art, music, creative play, and physical education.Foundational literacy skills are developed in Readers and Writers Workshop, and our teachers use the Next Generation Science Standards to guide our scientific units of inquiry. In lower elementary, students explore different elective classes each year to allow them to explore new interests and discover new talents. Some examples of elective classes include cooking, dance, puppets, crazy scientist, puzzles and more! In upper elementary, students select classes that fit their interests in the arts and music program which include robotics, theater, production of our elementary CAT NEWS, choir, studio art, orchestra and band.
